Getting There
Make your own
travel arrangements or handle them through a travel agency. If you
have questions or need help please contact Tyrolian Tours.
St. Johann is
located about 100 miles from the international airport in Munich,
Germany, which is the most convenient international airport from
which to reach Tyrol.
If you rent
a car in Munich, you will travel southeast from Munich to the Munich-Innsbruck
autobahn (highway). St. Johann is located only 35 kilometers (km)
- about 20 miles - off this autobahn and is connected by well maintained
roads.

* Autobahn until Kufstein Süd tollfree!
Detailed Driving Directions
The villages
of Kirchdorf and Oberndorf are situated only 4 km - about 2 1/2
miles - from St. Johann/Tirol.

not to take rental car, Tyrolian Tours will arrange transfers
from the airports in Munich, Salzburg, or Innsbruck. We can also
assist you with reserving reasonably-priced accommodations at a
hotel near the airport. Details will be provided upon request.

Insurance
Automobile
Insurance: If you reside outside of Europe, check with your
motor vehicle insurance carrier and your credit card company about
your insurance coverage while driving a rental vehicle in Europe.
This may save you money that might otherwise be spent on purchasing
unnecessary insurance from car rental agencies. You can also enjoy
considerable savings on the cost of a rental car in Europe by making
your reservations for a rental car before departing the United States.
Ski Accident
Insurance: If you reside outside of Europe, check with your
medical insurance carrier and credit card company about your medical
insurance coverage while in Europe. Although ski slopes in Austria
are very well groomed, you may, if you desire, purchase inexpensive
ski accident insurance through Tyrolian Tours for coverage beyond
that provided by your present medical insurance policy.
Hotel Cancellation
Insurance: At the time of making your booking, you may, if you
desire, purchase hotel cancellation insurance through Tyrolian Tours
or directly through Europaeische
Hotel Cancellation Cover. (The purchase through this insurance
carrier website can only be made by credit card.) This insurance
covers the full amount of your hotel (or self-catering apartment/condominium)
booking (minus applicable insurance deductibles). The cost of hotel
cancellation insurance is about four to five percent of the total
cost of your hotel booking. This insurance covers cancellations
caused by the death, serious accident, or unexpected serious illness
of the insured person making the hotel booking or his or her spouse,
live-in partner in a joint household, children, stepchildren, children-in-law,
grandchildren, parents, step-parents, parents-in-law, grandparents,
and siblings. The exact legal details of this coverage and the applicable
insurance deductibles are provided at the insurance carrier website.
Passports
Last, but not
least, before you do anything, make sure you have a current passport
for yourself and current passports for each member of your family
traveling with you to Austria. Check the expiration dates and pack
these in your bags before you pack anything else.

Driving
Directions
As you depart
the rental car garage in Munich, set the kilometer (km) odometer
at "0" and follow the Ausfahrt (exit) signs and blue arrow
out of the airport to the Münchenallee Richtungen 4 km from the airport.
Follow the sign to Salzburg. At 13 km (from the airport) follow
the Salzburg/München sign to Autobahn 9 (marked A-I for Austria
and Italy). At 24 km follow the Salzburg/Innsbruck (A-I) sign to
autobahn 99. At 53 km follow the Salzburg/Innsbruck (A-I) sign to
Autobahn 8 and proceed southeast. At 100 km (near Bad Aibling) follow
the Innsbruck/Kufstein/Brenner (I) sign to Autobahn 93 and proceed
south. At 125 km cross the border into Austria; stay on the autobahn.
At 132 km exit the autobahn at Kufstein Süd and follow the signs
southeast to Felbertauern and St. Johann i.T. on route 173. At 142
km merge onto route B 178 and follow the sign east to
St. Johann i.T. At 158 km follow the signs to Salzburg/St. Johann
i.T./Lofer through the tunnel. At 160 km as you depart St. Johann
continue on route B 178 and proceed north following the
signs to Lofer/Salzburg. Just past the first sign indicating a left
turn into Kirchdorf, turn right to the Tyrolian Tours
office at 164 km (102 miles) from the Munich airport.
If you drive to Tirol, make sure you have snow tires on your motor vehicle. If you rent a vehicle, insist that the rental car company provide you a car with snow tires. Do not allow rental car companies talk you out of requesting snow tires. Do not accept offers of so-called “all-weather tires.” Snow tires are necessary, not only for your safety, but also for your convenience, such as moving about freely on snow-covered parking lots at hotels, restaurants, and ski areas. You can expect to pay about $15.00 to $20.00 extra per day for snow tires. We have found recently that KEMWEL/EUROCAR is the most accommodating rental car company when requesting snow tires. You can save money on all rental cars if you make your rental car reservations while you are in the United States.
